A Meeting That Ended with an Overnight in School

Sun Sep 27, 2009, 5:06 AM
Yesterday was our department's general assembly meeting. I had already signed up a week ago that I was going to attend and so I went. When I left in the morning, it was already raining. I had arrived at school and it was still raining. It only felt like a normal rainy day. But halfway through the meeting, the rain got stronger. After a while I heard that it was starting to flood. I went to check and noticed that the street was gone. There was suddenly a river outside the school or to be more accurate, the school had a moat. We were surrounded with water. No one could get out. Cars parked outside were almost gone in the flood. That's how high the water was. So all we could do was wait for the water to subside. Didn't happen. Over 300 people (students, staff and faculty) were stranded in the school. This marks the 2nd time that I've stayed overnight in school because of a flood. First time was when I was still a student. The difference now is that at least this time I'm in an air conditioned room with computers that have internet access. I couldn't really fall asleep though. Just kept dozing off for about an hour or so. I roughly slept for about 3 hours or so. Walking about and checking if the water level went down. The next morning (this morning), the flood was subsided and the sidewalks were finally usable. At around 9am, I decided to walk through the flood to get home. What a Saturday that was!
